The recipes sound good in this book, but since there are no photos with any of the recipes in this book, it's a lot harder to tell if particular recipes would be something I might want to make. No photos might be okay for drop cookie or cake recipes, or quick breads. But for something like puff pastry desserts and appetizers, it's really nice to be able to see what the food is supposed to look like. Many of us need the visual to help us know what to do, and to envision the finished product. I doubt I will make very many of the recipes in this cookbook, just because there aren't photos. It's the photos that motivate many of us cooks to want to make something.
Very good book but there are no pictures of. The finished work!

Yes, yes, yes! I liked the first book, but this one just blew it out of the water and made me fall in love. I read this on vacation in between museum visits, clubbing, and beach time because it was so compelling that I couldn't stop thinking about it (or help buying the next book right after).This book was longer than the first, filled in much of Jeremy's background, had Jeremy and Simon grow much closer, and was a heart-racing explosion of action and issues to be dealt with (both covertly and overtly). I began to love all of the characters, the sleight-of-hand world the characters live in, and the wide scope of this book. While I felt the first book just introduced the story and felt somewhat disjointed (with throwing you in the middle of the many characters and all), this one really solidly bolted down the intent of this series, the loveliness (and grouchiness) of the characters, made you feel a part of the group, and was such a fun, and funny, read. This is possibly the best sequel I have ever read because it improved so much upon the first book. I have never read a series where there was such a big jump in quality from one book to the next, but I am so glad that there is and I read this!I am still rooting 100% for Simon and Jeremy, loving how their dynamic is changing, and am feeling a voracious appetite to see what will happen to them. Yes, Simon does piss me off with his less than kind treatment of Jeremy sometimes, but I still feel that they fit. And I love how Jeremy takes care of him time and again (in the next book as well) even without much appreciation shown to him. They respond to each other so well and are beautiful together when they put the outside world aside and just try a bit.The action this time has to do with catching someone close to Jeremy, prompting the explanations of his past, and I love how this was handled. Also, the other characters were explored more (there are chapters from each of their points of view in the next book, allowing for even more depth) and there is trouble within the team later in the book. It was all set up well, and was unexpected as to where the story took us. But it was still quite humorous and enjoyable to read throughout the problems and darker parts.All in all, this was a perfect sequel, on a completely different level than the first, and drew me in completely in a way the first didn't, so now this series is tied to my heart. Read the first book, then read this, and fall in love as I did.
I've seen some reviews that say the pacing is a little messed up. But honestly, I'm not seeing it. I was entertained the whole time. It's like watching a crime show. You're taken through all the steps in uncovering the mystery. It's not supposed to be guns & action non-stop.I wasn't a big fan of the slurs used, though I do think it was kinda typical of the image FBI agents have. You got these masculine dudes in positions of power shooting the shit and while I was not fond of some of the words, it didn't seem misplaced.The ending was a little unexpected- not what happened with one character, but what happened with the arrests etc. I enjoyed getting to know more about Jeremy.Anyway, I'm 60% into the next book, but I read this on vacation.
Double Down continues the story in The Morning Star, with the same fast paced rhythm and delirious humour. In the second instalment of the adventures of Templar’s team, they must face a new challenge: A cat burglar who is stealing high tech gadgets which afterwards appear mysteriously in the Russian market. This thief’s modus operandi and tools are an exact copy of those used by Jeremy Archer. That’s why Simon decides to ask Jeremy for help, which brings about unexpected consequences…The book is clearly divided in two parts: In the first one, Simon and his team set the trap to catch Simon’s double, who turns out to be very closely related to Jeremy’s past. His refusal to properly identify the thief, even though he helps them to set the trap, strains his relationship with Simon and the whole FBI team. The second part of the book starts after their failure at trapping the elusive thief, when they discover that there is a mole in the FBI. The identity of the mole confronts Jeremy and Simon, and brings about a series of events which end up with Simon on an institutional leave and bordering a breakdown. It is Jeremy who eventually forces him to get over his guilt and brings his back to his not very normal self. The relationship between Simon and Jeremy is as bizarre and stressful as in the previous book, but there is an evolution. We learnt many things about Jeremy’s past, which helps us understand his idiosyncrasy. Simon’s past, on the other hand, remains a mystery, and it is a pity because I think it would provide answers to why Simon continues behaving like such a jerk with Jeremy. Of the two main characters, Jeremy is the most likeable one who keeps being brushed aside and trashed by Simon. But I cannot help reaching the conclusion that the more Simon mistreats Jeremy, the more he cares about the thief. It is just his twisted way of showing that he cares. As for the rest of the team, they continue to be a gang of lunatic misfits who are unconditionally loyal to their beloved boss… are they?I really liked the book. I recommend it as much as the first one. It is like Casino Royale meets the madhouse. Action-packed, fast paced, with likeable characters and full of humour and even drama, it has everything you can enjoy in a book. I am just moving on to the third book. I cannot wait.
4.5 starsWell, Simon is consistent. A jerk, but I guess the whole hooking up with a criminal is a bit dicey. Perhaps that's what pushes him over the edge. Jeremy is a bit more forgiving than I think he should be. He seems to be very invested in Simon and whatever it is he sees in him.The mystery & suspense part of the story is excellent! From 76% on, I was unwilling to put down my kindle. Well played. I will read the next book soon.
Great sequel, loved Simon and Jeremy's interaction, .. Team Templar was a strong team, with an twist, that has been building since the first book. For a surprisingly strong team, not everything is as it seems. Highly recommend.
Drama, suspense, intrigue and a lillte twist that keeps you reading until the wee hours of the morning. If Hollywood had an ounce of sense, this series of books would make a blockbuster hit.
It's worth it, guys. There's not a lot of reviews or hype but this book series is well written with incredible characters and a great plot. Take a chance on this book!

Dan provides the firsthand account of the SS that 99% of the population only know of from pop culture (read: nothing) and tells the reader of the reality that the rank and file special agents backbone of the agency face. You will come away wondering what you can do to get Dan's message through to the HQ management who are more concerned about their retirement pay/post government lucrative job that awaits so many of them vs. doing the right thing for agent morale, and more importantly, the mission of the Secret Service.I read this book in under 5 days. Highly recommend it for anyone interested in LE, and the bureaucracy/PC that is constantly chocking the common sense out of them.PS: The author has the best Podcast available out there. Look it up!
Protecting the President = ensuring the stability of the country and the world, so yes I care. If everything you know about the Secret Service you learned from Hollywood and the MSM, then you don't know much. You can fix that in one afternoon with this book and be in a better position to interpret the news. Be prepared to finish more worried than you started though, because the job is a lot more than jumping in front of the President when a lone shooter takes a pot shot. Bongino outlines the institutional obstacles the agency is facing in fulfilling its mission, and urges the government to address those issues before it's too late.
In his third book, former secret service agent Dan Bongino touches on some of the underlying management issues that plaque the agency responsible for protecting our nations most important leaders. The shocking level of ineptitude plaqued by "it's the way we've always done it" group-think is a fantastic illustration which transcends into realms of corporate roadblocks which you may be able to relate with in your own life.

Don Bongonio has done his job, now it’s up the politicians, and those who are in a position to effect change at the Secret Service, to do theirs.
A definite MUST READ for the upcoming Fall/Winter! Easy reading, kept my interest so much that it only took me three days to read this book. Dan provides wonderful insight into the workings of the SS, the positive and negatives and his recommendations for improvement. I predict this will be his 3rd bestseller.
Like Paul Revere’s warning that the British were coming, this book is a clear warning to the American people and U.S. Secret Service leadership of the ever-increasing danger to the President and designated protectees if the agency fails to change. Dan addresses the many issues that confront the agency; from failing to address evolving security challenges, plummeting Agent morale, to the well-intentioned but poorly executed affirmative action hiring and promotion process. The author also details what the U.S. Secret Service is doing well at, and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the amazing capabilities of the agency and the agents that work there. Because “the why mattersâ€, Bongino doesn’t just offer criticism, he also provides an explanation of why the issue is important to the security of our President, and well-thought-out proposals to remedy the problems.
