I'd give it more stars if I could. If you're a fellow black metal fan who's eager to hear the true story of the band this is an essential read. Packed with vintage photos from Necrobutcher's personal archives, he's straight and to the point and tells it like it was. Printing was flawless and layout is impeccable. It's a valuable addition to my collection.
This book is awesome, tons of great pictures and the real Mayhem story as well. I sadly, saw the Lords of Chaos movie..it was awful, cringey, inaccurate, and one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. I knew the real Mayhem story but I wanted to know even more. This book is a great way to read and see what actually happened.
This was an excellent account of an historic band. Very well done with the kind of information that only someone who was actually there could have put together. It was gratifying to see that even the short-lived period when Kittil Kittelsen was the vocalist was included in the narrative. Not many people know that Kittelsen is the great-grandson of famous Norwegian artist Theodor Kittesen (1857-1914). The latter's artwork is found on more than a few black metal album covers (Burzum's "Filosophem" is one) and his "Mountain Troll" painting is even on the cover of Endless Boogie's "Long Island" LP.
This is necessary for fans of Mayhem or Black Metal in general and I'm very glad I purchased it.
