Great book for anyone with basic to no knowledge of ID. Very clear and in depth too.

Great content but this book itself had stains and writing throughout.
This is my go-to manual for ID. I find it accessible and thorough in its coverage of the most essential ID concepts. I have read the previous edition, too (see my pic!). Instructional design is a dry but important topic. It's the difference between a course that bores you to tears or changes your life. The authors have treated it well here.
Very reasonably priced handbook of the essentials for beginners. Some of the other resources online are overwhelming for my students, and this breaks it down in digestible chunks with easy to understand language.Not sure why the other individual who reviewed had to take out anger of having to pay for a book out on the authors. Granted, everything may be online, but the authors took the time to bring it together in a coherent form. eLearning is ever changing, but the concepts will apply to both instructional design and eLearning in the future.

Geologist Gregory Wrightstone's debut book is eminently readable, understandable and very well-illustrated. With more than 90 color illustrations and 14 pages of references, the book treads a hard-to-manage balance between well-researched science and a fascinating read.Throughout the book, the author provides easily understandable graphics and analysis of his 60 "inconvenient facts." These are facts, backed up by references to NASA, NOAA or peer-reviewed studies, that show in detail and clarity just how wrong much of what I thought that I knew is incorrect. Wrightstone opens the book with a perfectly apropos quote from H. L. Mencken who references the need for governments and institutions to create "an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary" in order to get its citizens to buy into otherwise harmful policies and regulations. The last half of his book is devoted to dispelling many of these climate "hobgoblins" which he calls "climate apocalypse" events.Using science and data, he systematically takes down notions of increasing tornadoes, hurricanes, heat waves, drought and many more.Early in the book, prefacing a series of particularly damning "inconvenient facts," Wrightstone writes that they will be "part of the cumulative evidence that will eventually drive the final nails into the coffin of the catastrophic man-made warming theory." He comes back to this analogy of hammering nails into global warming's coffin throughout this seminal book. The inconvenient truth about Al Gore is that he only took 2 science classes, and barely passed those. In case you didn't know, his predictions, like every other climate alarmist since the 1920's, were wrong. He did, however, major in religion, and has successfully created a new religion, Environmentalism, to which millions of uninformed people have blindly subscribed. Simple, concise and easy to read, this book shows how so-called "scientists" have taken studies and data and cherry-picked, changed, or otherwise misconstrued it to achieve a desired and false outcome. To hear supposedly educated people keep repeating "the polar bears will be extinct without the ice" makes me laugh every time, but it's just one of the myths of climate change that people really believe. Polar bears use ice floes for the same reason you take the bus- it's just easier. Like us, they're not stupid, just a little lazy. The polar ice caps have melted before, and the bears did just fine. In fact, they're doing better now in places that have no ice left than in places that have ice (more food). More CO2 in the atmosphere means more moisture in the air and soil, which means more plants, more food, and healthier animals and humans. I asked a local meteorologist why he (and 99% of all meteorologists) didn't believe in "man-made global climate change". He said, "Because I already have a job." You'll notice the only meteorologists and physicists who do subscribe to it work for government-funded "associations" or foreign governments, and say, "Yes, we believe, so the U.S. and Germany need to give us some money, so we can combat this". This is the biggest fraud in human history. Read this book, it's only about 125 pages, and stop listening to all those people who have a political or monetary agenda. Warm is good (for everybody). Oh, by the way: It's not "97%" of scientists who believe in man-made climate change- it's less than 3%. Al lied, based on a "study" that was false, and the environmentalists just keep repeating it over and over, hoping eventually it will be accepted as fact. It is not "settled science", except in the minds of the climate police. And FYI- neither England nor Florida have been submerged yet, as has been predicted over and over for the past hundred years. Just sayin'. Look up petitionproject online to see the petition 31,000 real scientists sent to congress.
Wrightstone's "Inconvenient Facts" is a prolific collection of analyses on various common climate change topics that are frequently referred to by those in the media and society who would claim that the climate apocalypse is upon us. But through careful study and presentation of real facts and real evidence, this book addresses each issue frequently brought up by alarmists and explains how, rather than being on the brink of self-destruction, we're actually doing pretty well here on Earth. The bottom line is that Earth has been changing and will continue to change for billions of years, but the human contribution and impact in these changes is ultimately negligible in the grand scheme of Earth's existence.I would highly recommend this book to everyone who has doubts, or just wants the full picture, of the frequently raised issues that are commonly heard in (especially) the liberal media and such groups. Science should not be politicized, ever, or at least we should avoid it as much as possible. So-called climate change has been immensely politicized to the extent that now science is being misrepresented, and the scientific method itself has been thrown out the window. To the reader, please take a look at this book and consider each point carefully and openly.
Yes science is real. Cherry picked climate data used for political gain by liberal politicians isn’t science. Nor do scientists trading integrity for funding and political influence produce real science. Climate change is real. Has been forever. How convenient that some believe a mystical tax solves a complex issue. Climate alarmism is simply a ploy by the left to grow government authority, raise taxes and dissolve national identity in favor of elitist globalism. But if you can put it on a bumper sticker, lemmings will follow. Check your condescension, open your mind and have a read.
Presents the actual data on all aspects of the global warming/climate change issue, showing that climate change is mostly natural and does not threaten mankind. The data show no correlation between atmospheric temperature and CO2, therefore reducing CO2 by reducing fossil fuels will not affect temperature and will forego many benefits, mostly harming lower income people and underdeveloped populations. The data does not support the claim that severe weather events are increasing, not in frequency or intensity. The geologic temperature record shows that the earth's atmosphere has been warmer than today numerous times in the past when CO2 levels were lower.
Finally, a book to challenge the falsehoods presented by a portion of our society. Climate change has always been with us. Greg’s book is an eye-opener and disproves many of the false notions about CO2. His book is easy to read, even easier to understand (in color) and meticulously documented. This book supports a very different narrative than popular apocalyptic ending of mankind by human- driven climate change. The “consensus†popular opinion is clearly at odds with reality. Greg’s book presents that The Earth and it’s ecosystems (humans) are thriving because of increasing CO2 and slightly rising temperatures, not in spite of it. Policy decisions based on non-problems of man- made global warming are a mistake. What Greg’s book accomplishes is to provide an alternate, researched platform for informed discussions. It is also a challenge to scientists to remember to uphold the integrity of their profession. Every scientific theory in our history has been challenged and proven/ disproven. No scientific theory should have debate cut off for political reasons. Lastly, this review represents my opinions, and my opinions only. If you want to understand Methodist practice, theology and worldview this book will help you get your feet wet. If you want to understand a larger scope of Western Christianity then this book is not for you. It has very little cross-application unless you are coming from a Methodist or Wesleyan tradition. This is not to say the book is a failure but it is to say the book has a very specific language to a very specific audience. I could go into the details but if you come from another Protestant tradition you may struggle to find common ground and application points.
"Christian leadership is defined, formed, and shaped by, as well as rooted and deployed in accordance with, who God is, where God is, what God is doing, and what God would have individuals and communities be and do. Leadership in the Christian community is a sharing in the life and mission of the triune God, which means that it begins, continues, and ends in communion with, obedience to, and praise of the God we know as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Such leadership is much more than institutional direction and management." This densely packed statement about the character of Christian leadership is from a new book written by Bishop Ken Carder and Dr. Laceye Warner. Both these authors teach at Duke University Divinity School. Their book, Grace to Lead: Practicing Leadership in the Wesleyan Tradition, is a clear and concise guide for the formation and practice of Christian leadership. As the title indicates, the book focuses on approaches to leadership derived from the theology and ministry of John and Charles Wesley. When Carder and Warner look at the life and witness of the Wesley brothers and the movement they lead, they see that leadership is rooted in doctrine and mission. This is countercultural for much of the leadership literature circulating in the church today. They teach that leadership is rooted in technique, relevance and power. The goal of leadership is organizational success; with success judged according to market standards. When applied to the church, this market-oriented approach to leadership is dependent upon programs with broad appeal and satisfying perceived needs of members all with the goal of attracting as many people as possible. An alternative to such market oriented leadership strategies is to focus on the historic doctrine of the church that direct the church toward participation in God's mission for the world. This shifts the telos, or goal, of leadership from institutional success to missional faithfulness. It shifts the focus ministry from the church and onto God and God's mission in the world. Reading the works of John and Charles Wesley reveal that leadership is derived from a life steeped in grace; the power and presence of God in the world. Leaders are persons who habitually open themselves to this grace and freely share it with others. This means that leadership and discipleship are inseparable. In the Wesleyan tradition leaders are persons who practice the disciplines of love known as "means of grace." These practices form their identity and worldview in ways that conform them to the image of Christ. One implication of this, according to Carder and Warner, is that authority for leadership is derived more from baptism than ordination. Grace to Lead is the best book on leadership in the Wesleyan tradition I have encountered. It is an excellent resource for small group study. The authors include questions to lead discussion at the end of each chapter. My prayer is that Grace to Lead will be on every Bishop's "required reading" list in every annual conference in 2011.

It is not obtuse, and for a reasonably experienced musician, it is a "fast read," as it introduces nuances and subtleties in conducting in a progressive fashion. Well worth the money, despite a few too many typographical errors. Mr. Maiello would be advised to fire the proof reader and get someone who pays as much detail to words as he must pay to musical scores.
This book has some beautiful words that are helpful to anyone who wants to do conducting. My favorite quote from the book is as follows:“...From the silent page of the musical score to the listeners’ ears...â€

Not only is Mr. Maiello a great conductor, he is a teacher who can clearly explain each of these skills. And the included music provides constructive practice. This is a wonderful book. It brings me great peace and understanding. Daniel Gottlieb has the benefit of surviving and thriving despite his many challenges. This book was so helpful and insightful, I bought copies for several of my friends.I learned about this book from my mother who is in her eighties.She has had to deal with the challenges of aging, she found the writer to be validating of her struggle yet inspiring.As a psychotherapist , I have recomended this book to my clients and they have enjoyed and benifited greatly from reading it. I would certainly recommend this book to everyone, but especially those individuals who are facing illness,death and loss, or just need some perspective on how to deal with adversity.
Had to get and read this book for one of my graduate classes but I really enjoyed the book. It was an easy read I did it in a couple days only because of my hectic schedule, but the messages were profound and very universal and I think everyone should read this book.

I just got lucky to find "Learning from the Heart" and I would recommend anyone feel hopeless in their life. We all have different way of registering things, but this one won't waist your time or money. I hope you too get lucky and feel rejuvenated.
