This book about the author's emotional healing through a combination of tango and Zen was intriguing. Although one might think the two were not at all similar, the intensity of immersion in both is the same.My biggest challenge with the book was with the cavalier way the author described how all the men at the milongas thought of her as a dancing goddess, of how she could eat whatever she wanted without gaining an ounce, of how she was able to just pick up and move to Buenos Aires for a year with no financial worries. I would have felt more empathy for the author if she had expressed any negative feelings at all about anything except herself.Discussed this in a book group, though, where people who were more familiar with Zen felt this was an uplifting and inspiring book. They would have given it 5 stars.
If you have a passing interest in Argentine Tango but are not sure of how the dance affects those who travel to Buenos Aires, this book is for you. It is not a book of anecdotes covered with tasty frosting but rather a collection of experiences of living life as a temporary "Porteno", learning the dance and what affect it has on life for the many unique people Maria Finn met in a short time. In the end, the reader understands the nature of the title and is left wondering what has happened since living in Argentina.
Really loved the way she incorporated her experiences with learning about the Tango along with her personal trials and development. The background info on the Argentine Tango was just what I'd been looking for. She made it easy to understand and make sense of how and went it developed as it did, culturally and psychologically. Made me want to go out and learn to Tango! Well written. I'd read more of her work and highly recommend this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and its many layers. It is a primer on argentine tango, a story of personal recovery, a comic account of feminine New York social life and a witty dialogue, among others. The author shifts easily from technical dance terminology to humorous verbal exchanges to flowing, descriptive creative writing. The book stays intriguing as the author describes her journey through the learning curve of tango and inserts flashbacks to help the reader understand what happened to her and why she has chosen to learn tango, which is a masochistic process of sorts. All in all, a complete book that kept me interested.
HMT&TMH was one of the best stories I've read in a long time. I was engrossed in the protagonist's problems adjusting to life w/o her husband, as well as her trials and tribulations with learning the tango. She described her friends and dance partners so well that I thought I was dancing and chatting with the class. This is not a girlie book, anybody can and should enjoy this story.
We have a lovely Argentine Tango community in SW FL. We now have a "tango bookclub" to give us insight to the dance, the history and the culture of tango. This was the 2nd book we read. Although none of us believed that the main character could learn to dance this dance so well in such a short time, every one of us could relate our experience of WHY we became so devoted to this dance. Several of us could empathize with her and found that her experiences were similar to our own. It had a very authentic ring to it and her research into the history and culture of the dance seemed quite accurate. What I liked best is that the author chose to express her personal feelings about this beautiful dance and how it helped to change her life. I have experienced the same and heard many similar stories. Good job!
I read this book and LOVED IT. I sent a copy to my sister and she immediately sent another copy to her best friend. I'm sureit went on from there. I'm not a tango dancer but the story of the author's heartbreak the challenge of moving on is universal and we all havea lot to learn from her travels. It reminded me that all personal tragedies are opportunities for growth and change.Maria Finn obviously takes this very much to heart and I found myself almost immediately cheering her on. As a protagonist, she'shard to resist. I absolutely marvel that, after splitting up with her husband, she would take up tango -- a technical and punishingdance form to master after such a devastating ego blow. She seemed to draw faith that she would triumph from some deep well even she didn't know she had. The book is apage turner -- and I laughed out loud many times. I recommend it HIGHLY -- not just for dance lovers -- but for anyonewho has ever had their heartbroken and found the courage to put it back together again.
Interesting concept of getting over heartbreak through the lessons learned in Tango classes. The author had some pretty neat comparisons of dance principles to life principles. Only gave this three stars because there were various areas where the story seemed to drag and the dance descriptions were confusing to read. However, I would recommend this book to anyone trying to get over an emotional struggle since it does provide various outside the box ways to think about the journey through such a difficult time.

I hated this textbook. I'm sure the information is good or my professor would not have chosen it. For me though, it was terrible having no glossary and a horrible index. I couldn't go back and find anything so I'd just have to guess approximately and hope I found it.
Although I have done a fair amount of international business in software and services, I have now started an export manufacturing business. The import of materials/components and export of products was providing a fair challenge for me. I found this book excellent in explaining the mechanics of setting up agreements, managing client/supplier relationships, getting good shipped around and establishing distributor networks. It provided great detail on these topics, without padding it out with filler or redundant material.I have read the entire book, but skipped around between chapters. Each chapter stands on its own, so this is easily done. I am from Australia and this book is very U.S. centric. However, most of the principles apply and the book was still quite useful.A small handful of typos and extra spaces here and there, but nothing that is annoying or detracting from the quality of the book.This is exactly the book I was looking for.

It offers very little on other forms of entry into foreign markets. But this comment is not meant as a slight; most small businesses would be very challenged going beyond the export model when entering foreign markets.A solid book, easy to read and grasp content. Highly recommended.

Fantastic! If you want a Q & A style TRUE (pre-Vat II) catechism by one of the greatest popes of all time, this is for you. Less then a half inch thick, it is light and easy to carry around for reference. Highly recommended.
Ah...if only everyone would read this book, they would have a clear understanding of the Catholic Catechism. Return to Tradition and know the true Catholic Catechism!
This Catechism was written by Pope Pius X, and it was intentioned for the masses, and written at a level of question/answers for anyone to understand.
I have seen in the past books which claim to be "reprints" of Catholic books which added or changed the original text to V2 words. This book appears to do the same. Example: Q 29 on the creed: a man outside the Church of a different religion through no fault of his can be saved etc etc, which is a V2 teaching. But Q 27 immediately preceding clearly says that no one can be saved outside the Catholic Apostolic and Roman Church, which is the true teaching of Pius X. Catholics would do well to avoid this book.
In these times of much confusion in the Church,it is good to have a Catechism that cuts through the modernist muck and states very clearly what the Church has ALWAYS taught. indispensable in learning the basics of the Faith!
A very good Catechism for the Catholic Faith which retains it's value even today. In the words of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger (later Pope Benedict XVI): "The faith, as such, is always the same. Therefore, St. Pius X's catechism always retains its value, … There can be persons or groups that feel more comfortable with St. Pius X's catechism. ... that Catechism stemmed from a text that was prepared by the Pope himself [Pius X] when he was Bishop of Mantua. The text was the fruit of the personal catechetical experience of Giuseppe Sarto, whose characteristics were simplicity of exposition and depth of content. Also because of this, St. Pius X's catechism might have friends in the future"
For years I have asked many of the questions that are in this catechism, and now I finally have a straight answer. I have never heard any of this coming from the Catholic clergy. Why?!?!!!Souls by the millions could be saved if all Catholics were required to read this for RCIA.
It is much clearer than the instruction I received as a child. It's actually somewhat frightening because it makes many things rather starkly clear.

An outstanding book which combines history with practical techniques for creating your own G&G style furniture. Peart is truly an outstanding craftsman and now an author/historian. Excellent photos and ideas...and some plans.This is an update of my review....and I wish 6 or 7 stars were possible. The reason is that I just finished a Greene & Greene TV cabinet where I used several of Darrell Peart's techniques and the results were unbelievable perfection but yet made two tasks which I always dreaded as "easy as pie". Here is more detail.Peart's sections on "Machining the Breadboard Joint" and "The Ebony Spline" taught me how to perform these tasks to perfection. I have done quite a few Greene & Greene pieces of furniture over the past 8 years but I always dreaded these two challenges because of the breadboard ends being proud to the top. After reading and then trying Peart's techniques (which were very well written and illustrate), I asked "Why didn't I think of this?"For any woodworker who loves Arts & Crafts, Craftsman, and Greene & Greene styles, Peart's book is a MUST for your workshop and will teach you exactly how to perform woodworking tasks needed in these style with ease and perfection.I thank Darrell for taking the time to publish this book.
The book provides a nice background on the Greene brothers and the Hall brothers (the ones that brought the Greene designs to fruition). What follows is a description of their major projects as well an excellent description of their design elements and the process of how these were used in their furniture. If you are planning on building any Greene & Greene style furniture, this is the book to buy. Darrell Peart has done an excellent job putting this book together. His understanding and skill at designing and building furniture in the Greene and Greene style are par exellence. You can see examples of his work at (...)If you are interested in viewing another book showing not only furniture designed by Greene and Greene, I highly recommend 'Greene and Greene Furniture, Poems of Wood and Light' by David Mathias. This does not cover the building of furniture, but shows many examples of furniture as well as the houses the design elements of several of their houses.
If you are a fan of this movement then you should have this in your library! Very detailed descriptions and insights.The author does a fantastic job showing key details in the Greene's amazing furniture. I found the chapter on Mr. Peartsown woodworking to be very informative and stimulating.This is one of those rare woodworking and design books that I find myself reading and looking thru just for the sheer enjoyment of it.The photos are impressive! Very nice.
My friend who is an amateur, but quite good, woodworker really likes this book. It is his second Greene & Greene woodworking book and he says both are really helpful and inspiring.
I have built Arts and Crafts style furniture for many years and have always loved the Greene and Greene style. This book gives some history and background on the style but it's real value is in the very detailed explanations of how to execute the details Greene and Greene. It's practical and well written. Where jigs are necessary they are described and photographed in detail. I have now purchased the plans for the author's bedside table and plan on making that when I get the half dozen pieces I am working on now finished. A fun book even if you never build anything.
O got this book to give me ideas on furniture I want to build for out house. I've read it twice and no doubt will refer to it for a long time. Good addition to my G&G library for ideas and inspiration.
If you are into woodworking and the Greene and Greene style, this is a great book on learning how to make some of the elements of Greene and Greene. I have made sever items using this book since I received it and everything has turned out like the picture in the book. Looking forward to get his second book coming out later this year.
Darrell is a master at this stuff. I wish I had even half of his talent. This book is great to look at and it has helped me on a couple of projects. I certainly can recommend it.
