A Forest of Wolves is the second book in the Uprising series by Chelsea Luna. In the first, Lions in the Garden, Mila found out that there was a plan for her to marry a baron almost three times her age so she decided to run away from the castle where she met Marc, the son of blacksmith and a Protestant. There was unrest between the Protestants and the Catholic led royal court with rumors of an uprising being planned.Now Mila is considered a traitor after escaping with Marc and the other Protestants. In hiding and on the run Mila has found out that the father she always knew was not her real father but the King himself so now Mila is threatened from both sides of the rebellion from her claim to the crown.I have really been enjoying this historical series. A Forest of Wolves brought me right back into the lives of Mila and Mark and even included enough details to remind me of just where the story had left off in the first book.I did however find this one seemed to take a bit of time to really get going in the story. There’s a bit more of a love triangle-ish relationship trying to develop in this one but not sure just where that will go. I think maybe too because it’s the middle book of the series the action seemed to slow down a bit as the story builds. But it did have an exciting cliffhanger ending to lead into the next book.Overall, 3.5 stars for this historical read. Excited to see how this series continues in the next installment.I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars"I was walking in my mother's rebellious footsteps. I would finish what she started."This book starts right where the first one ended. We start with Mila being on the run with Marc and some of the protestant Rebels, as they try to get far away from the city in order to regroup.Once Mila and the rebels finally make it to where they will be staying we finally get to meet Marcs father and one of his Uncles. We see where Marc gets his kindness from and why he was chosen as the leader of the rebellion. Of course some of the people distrust Mila because of who she is and what she believes."People are waiting for us there. Allies. Peasants. Protestants. Defectors of the Crown and the Catholic Church. It's the headquarters of the rebellion." Rebellion. This was it. I'd officially joined the Protestant rebellion.As Mila starts to get use to rebel life she is also expected to do household things in order to provide for herself and Marc so they have a nice place, but she doesn’t know how to do any of these things. The person that’s chosen to teach her is one she doesn’t exactly have the best history with, but they make it work kind of and Mila starts to appreciate what she had, while still being determined to make it outside."You seem like a nice girl, but remember, you're a long way from Prague Castle. Life is different out here. It's not safe. And the Crown isn't the only thing you should be worried about." Throughout all of this time though Mila is keeping a secret that will not only most likely get her killed, but one that could change the whole of Bohemia if she lives."There was a difference in keeping my identity hidden for safety and keeping it hidden because I was embarrassed by who I was. I wouldn't be ashamed."When a present from the castle comes for Mila though, everything changes and the war has just begun… She starts to see what she has really done, and what her “father†is doing to the people of Prague in broad daylight now. With no one willing to stop him besides the protestants."Now he could kill whomever he liked whenever he wanted. And the entire Kingdom of Bohemia, the Holy Roman Empire, the Hasburg dynasty, and the Catholic Church were behind him."Overall I enjoyed this one even more then the first one. I did still think Mila made some questionable decisions, but I can’t say that I might not have made them as well given how sheltered she was in the castle and how much was hidden away from her until her eyes started to open and see what was truly happening around her. Mila grows so much in this book, and she really starts to understand the choices that she makes and the power that she has could change everything and will affect everyone. Not just the people around her, but the people in the whole country and maybe beyond. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book! (No idea if there will be one or not but it leaves everything open so I’m assuming there will be some sort of another part. )"How would I run a kingdom? What would I decide? Would I grant religious freedom or rule with an iron fist? Could either side truly be happy? Or would they always be at war?"

She confides in Marc’s brother (Henrick) and he promises to protect her with his life. Her friendship blossoms with Henrick and when Marc confronts her about it, she’s torn. But everything comes crashing down when old enemies threaten everything Mila hold dear (including her life). Who cares about the future when you’re in the fight of your life?While this is darker than Lions in the Garden, I understood why Luna set the tone of the book in bleary shades of grey. It’s a revolution and Mila is at the heart of it. We get to feel her loneliness, isolation and grief. So much death, so much torture, so much blackness.The torture and graphic detail of beatings were a touch excessive for me. I had to skim over those scenes, so be forewarned.Luna did her research and history is bleeding from these pages. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say I was reading an autobiography. The war between Catholics and Protestants was one of the bloodiest in history yet many believers have no idea. I’m telling every Christian to read this book because it’s that important.I loved the tenderness between Mila and the two brothers. There’s an undercurrent that I hope Luna expands on in the next book. Yes, there’s a book three and I can’t wait to read it! All 4 of our children are in the double digits; so this has been an ideal devotional for our "God and I" times in the mornings! Each teen takes weekly turns reading for the day. Then, whatever verse for the day is, we read the entire chapter together as well. (We divide up the number of verses in the chapter, and we read a section of verses at a time.I've actually seen improvement over the summer in our youngest's reading ability! :)
I bought the book because I liked the pages I was able to see; my 16 year-old daughter tells me this book makes her feel like Jesus is her best friend and speaking directly to her heart.
The devotion is gets me in reading the bible, and praying. At the end there is a prayer for you to recite, but unlike most devotions there is no amen, it encourages you to elaborate. I am closer to God because of the devotion and I am only on Day 21.Recommend it to all teens and some young adults.
I would really recommend this one for your teen! My son actually seems to like it as he said some of it is real life stuff he confronts on any given day. Not that he lets us see him study it ...we know he does... as the pages are dog eared!!!
My son is 15 and we read this every night. It gives you the verse and then a quick explanation like Jesus is talking directly to you then the prayer. I like it because there are no stories from babyboomers trying to relate to today's teens! Often the verse and the following is enough and my son will spontaneously go into his own prayer. I highly recommended this as a brief but powerful tool to keep your mind on God.
My 15 year old asked for a new devotional after finishing the one she had. After researching and reviewing other devotionals for teens on Amazon, I was drawn to this one. She loves it!! The readings and scriptures have the perfect balance, and relate to issues/topics that teens face in the modern world. Would definitely buy this for other teens as a gift!
Recently purchased this for my Granddaughter, she is going to love this book. After I read some of the pages, I just know this will be so good for her. I will be sending this out to her in the next couple of days. Thank you Amazon for all the wonderful selection of Christian books, videos and much more.
This book is awesome for uplifting your spirits each day you read it. For each day, it starts you off with a Bible verse, then a little passage that speaks from God's point of view directly to you, and finally there is a prayer reminding you of God's love and how we must try to be more like him, and other things too! Great book! :)

TEEMU MOILANEN is a place branding specialist. He has performed several international research and development projects in place branding in national -, city- and tourism resort levels. He has been nominated as the leading specialist in the field by ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Finnish Tourist Board, and is currently working as an Advisor and key author of the 'Development programme of the Nation Brand of Finland', issued by the government of Finland. Moilanen has extensive experience in tourism destination branding and development in several countries in the world, and during more than a decade has been involved in developing strategic Master Plans of several leading tourism destinations. Moilanen is also a seasoned speaker in seminars and international conferences related to destination branding. Currently Moilanen is the Chairman of the Board and Principal Lecturer of the first and largest Master level programme of Hospitality Management in Finland, at HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences, and works as the CEO of Imagian Ltd, a consultancy company specializing in Place Branding.SEPPO RAINISTO is recognized as a leading specialist in place marketing and branding, now chairman of Meritleader Int. His study Success Factors of Place Marketing (2003) was probably the first doctoral dissertation in the field. Rainisto advises numerous cities, regions and communities on place branding. The minds behind the book fail to display an authoritative command of the subject and even crash then burn when addressing the well established theoretical framework for product and service branding.Words and phrases meander on their way to make a point and assertions get lost in endless repetition as a reader might stumble over badly organized chapters, paragraphs and even sentences.The doctoral students at the heart of this work should leave marketplace offerings and return to their academic environs more accepting of sophmoric admirations of their elders and more studied peers.I will use the book as an exceptional listing of contemporary studies on more narrow subjects.
I am currently working on my grad school thesis pertaining to the topic of city branding. I have checked out a handful of books from the school's library and have found this one to be the most resourceful.The authors wrote this book in such a clear and straight-forward manner. Right off the bat, the opening chapter that introduces the general concept of branding is one of the best I have ever read (...and I have read A LOT of books on branding!). The book also contains plenty of great examples of both successes and failures (very insightful!) of past branding attempts. It explains all the things you need to consider if you were to attempt to brand a destination. Throughout, the narrative/pacing is well maintained as we jump from one chapter to the other.Seriously, I can't say enough about this book. If I were to actually land a city branding project, I would totally use this book as my official guide (dare I say Bible!). It's a great tool for those new to the topic to learn from and for experts to revisit some of the things that they may have learned to overlook throughout the years. I can't honestly say that this is THE book for destination branding...the authors did mention that this concept is still relatively new and there's still much to be learned as more and more attempts arises...but it sure is a great start.

Kindergarten-Grade 4-This story, adapted from a Yoruba folktale, tells of three brothers who, having completed their manhood ceremonies, must decide on their life's work. The first two make acceptable decisions, but the third boy, Banzar, wants only to be a musician. When the village elders rule that his choice is unacceptable, he leaves. He meets an old, blind praise singer (or griot), and the two spend years traveling while Sholo teaches the young man how to make a living as a musician. When the Singing Man dies, Banzar goes on to become the personal musician of the king of Lagos. One day, he sees his brothers in the marketplace and arranges for a happy reunion. This story imparts the subtle bits of wisdom found in traditional African folklore. Medearis's retelling is well developed and presents a fuller text than found in her Dancing with the Indians (Holiday, 1991) and Our People (Atheneum, 1994). Shaffer's rich oil paintings and decorative borders are lively and capture the mood of the text. Expressive renderings convey the anxiety of approaching manhood, the ambivalence of having to choose between family tradition and one's heart's desire, the shame of failure, and the pride in success. Banzar's humility enables him to return to his family and offer them love and financial assistance.
